both of my work trucks have the duramax and we have had zero issues.. keep the oil and fuel filter changed and it will out last the truck

I'm looking to buy a crew cab diesel. I'm thinking about this but not that faimilar with diesels. I know the Ford's with the 6.0's have all sorts of problems so I'm trying to stay away from them. They are great on fuel, they are hard on transmissions if you chip them. I have seen 7.3 with 450,000 miles several in fact |

I have a friend that has a 2003 F350 crew cab with just over 100,000 mile, 5th wheel kit, cap, all the bells and whistles. As soon as things turn around for me I'm buying it off him and I can't wait. |

in my book there are only 2 diesels to own at this point, 1st would be a cummins and 2nd a 7.3 powerstroke (2003 was last for these), the others just haven't been around long enough to prove anything substantial imo this is how I rate them, gm has the best auto tranny, ford 2nd and dodge 3rd dodge has best engine, ford 2nd and gm 3rd ford has the best body/chassis, the other 2 are a toss up the room of the dodge mega cab is VERY nice especially on long trips regardless of which one you get but any of the newer computerized/programmable turbo diesels will benefit from a cold air kit, bigger exhaust and a programmer, it make them night and day difference in power and fuel mileage as long as you drive halfway decent bottom line is it would be hard to go wrong with a ford as long as its not a 6.0 or a dodge if its had the tranny built in a auto my 2 cents |

I have had a 1999 F-350, 2000 F-250, 2003 F-250 and a 2006 F-350. The '99 had the 7.3 and the 2006 has the 6.0 diesel. I had no problems with the '99 but it only had 75,000 miles when I traded it in. The 2006 currently has 106,000 miles and it and it has been reliable too. Early on the dealer replaced 3 injectors but that is all. I know they have a lot of EGR problems if the truck is allowed to idle a lot or driven for short trips and not allowed to get fully warmed up. I haven't had the EGR issues. The biggest difference I have noticed is the steering and suspension. In 2004 they went to coilovers on the front and different steering. This was a huge change and I personally wouldn't buy a super duty that was the older suspension and steering. If you plan to travel with it on the highway the new steering is a huge improvement. I do prefer the 7.3 for it's reliability. I don't think you will get good mileage from either. My 6.0 has 4.10 gears and weighs 10,000 pounds. If I'm coasting down the highway I may get 13mpg but towing or city it's almost always around 10mpg. It is a small dump with low gears though. |

never owned anything but the Duramax. Had a 2003 3500 dually with 250,000 miles on it and never had any trouble with it. It got 17mpg when not towing. I have a 2011 3500 dually with the Duramax in it. it only has about 20,000 miles on it and haven't had any trouble with it yet. The difference in power between the two is amazing. It gets about 15mpg not towing. they both get around 10 to 12mpg pulling. I have a friend with a Ford 450 hauler truck that can't keep up when we go places. |

I,m not big on dodge at all and honestly have no real experience with the cummins. If you like ford the 7.3 is the only one i would have but as stated earlier it will need a trans at some point and is down on power as compared to newer desiels. In MY opinion the chevys with duramax engine and allison trans is the best combo out there. The newer the better as far as power. drive one,floor it and be impressed

buddy of mine just got a 2500 duramax and we pulled 2 buggys with it and it got 18 mpg pulling them i drove it home and man it felt nice had plenty of power comfortble shifts smooth i suggest go chevy and any of the you get get a programer |

I have an SCT programmer on mine with 3 tunes and it does make it come alive. It did not help my mileage though. I'm just stuck with poor mileage. I tow almost everyday and a light day is 7000 pounds. |

Miss my 2006 Chevy 3/4 ton Durra max with they Banks kit. It would pass everything except a fuel station and it required the contents of a Brink's truck to pay for the fuel back in 2007. I traded it for a 2008 Ford F250 with the 6.4 piece of poop man was I stupid back then. |

I had a 2002 F350 I really liked it till I bought a 1998 Cummins manual trans. That thing would pull a house! It had all the Banks stuff and would get 18-20 pulling my trailer. Sold it to get a 2004 cummins auto.... man I miss my 98! Dodge is a side effect of a Cummins. I like Ford trucks better but can't bet a Cummins, I wish Ford would use them. I have never drove a duramax so no opioin there |

I would say Chevy my dad has an 2004 duramax 2500 four door and Four wheel drive he has over 300,000 miles at onepoint it needed a Water pump it has big exhaust k and n air filter and a chip it will Run 80 up the highway pulling 3 tons and get 18 to 20 mpg about 22 mpg running empty |

The 6.7 powerstroke first year motors(2011) had soft valves in it id check and make sure the heads have been replaced or motor, we bought a work truck new motor blew up at 32k sucked a valve dealer ship said that was why and was the 3rd one in the shop recently |

We have a 4700 LoPro with the T444E engine, basically a 7.3 powerstroke, and it gets better mileage than my truck. Has the Allison automatic transmission too. Rides like a wagon but the turning radius is unbelievably small. Problem with them is every little part is $300. They can haul some weight but they aren't fast. We had ours re-programmed by the international dealer and I think it still tops out around 65. Doesn't matter if the pedal is mashed to the floor, that's all you get out of it. That would be a great buggy hauler. Make the back seat a bed.
