if it says they take 18.75 then maybe im missing something cus i sure cant get my stock bus axles to go in. the the shaft is too long to even go between the flanges....

i have stock bus arms 18 3/4 (too long) and i have stock car arms too short, and i have one axle that is 18 inches long????? the 18 " seems to be the right length, but i cannot fond a match to it ANYWHERE!!!! any thoughts on what the correct length shoud be??????? id buy a whole set if i have to. |

2x3 are 18 3/4 Some guys run Avery arms which are 2x2 I believe ... Sure somebody will answer your question in time ! |

http://www.blindchickenracing.com/How_t ... es_101.htm They don't show the 2x2 arms but they do show the 2x3 at 18.75". I would think 18" may be about right. I'm sure you can order them that length somewhere out West. Might be cheaper to just get some 2x3 or 3x3 arms and axles. |

man ive looked everywhere for info on this....no luck the arms i have are 2x2 tubular style arms (look like appletree arms) i measured them against stock arms to verify the specs. i have several sets of 18.75 axles and they are too long. somehow i ended up with one 18" axle and it works but i have no idea where it came from or where to get another???? im kinda stumped..... guess i will have to buy a custom set???? |

yea thats a good idea!......but i really dont wanna have to do that since i already have one 18 inch axle....and it would ruin a perfectly good set of bus axles. i may wanna go up to 3x3 or 2x3 one day....i doubt it but who knows...lol if i cut them will that leave enough splines ??? there has to be some way to find another 18 inch shaft...... |

at full drrop i can get the 18.75 BARE SHAFT ONLY to barely go between the flanges. but the shaft with the joints on them will not go. idk wtf is goin on. |

i know the arms are 2x2... i measured them against the stock ones.....so what gives??? this is my first vw buggy but im not an idiot....lol how is this possible??? \whats different on my buggy than everyone elses? lol what are some things i can check??? wheel bearing installation? seal spacers? stub axle length? im at aloss... |

ok i did find one issue... after completely disassembling the stub axle assembly and removing the bearings i found that the person that i bought the arms (new but assembled) from had installed the bearings/seals/spacers incorrectly: they had put an extra seal spacer inside the hub between the bearings....this also, i found out, kept the previous installer from being able to access the snap ring grove for the inner bearing....so they just left it out. lol i removed the bearings and repacked them , took out the erroneous spacer and reassembled each unit... after removing it i have gained a .375 inch on each side...left and right. this may be enough to run the 8.75 axles...i wil try tomorrow and see. |

lol thanks man! i was startin to pull my hair out .... idk if im outa the woods yet but im glad it happened because i found the mistakes that would have def caused me some serious grief down the road. will keep yall posted...hopefully i will be up and running this week..... got the fox coilovers mounted, brak elines ran, arms mounted...bearings seals and stubs in. just gotta fit me some axles inthere. lol |

k its official...i need ONE 18 inch axle shaft. lol i already have one.....and i have no idea where i have it from.....but its the perfect length for my 2x2 appletree arms.... idk ho wit happened or why...but the 8.75 stock bus axles are too long. i tried putting them in with no joints on them while cycling the suspension and by the time its half way down they are binding in the cups of the flanges...... but the 18 inch is perfect. i even called appletree and they said 18.75 should work ..... ???????????????????????????? |

i can take pics but i dont know how to post them.... would someone be willing to post them for me if i email them to you???? the 18 inch axle fits both sides.... the 18.75 just simply does not and will not fit i could try cutting some off the ends.....butid rather just buy on axle or two. i already have a factory 18 inch axle that came from somewhere....i thik it came from a station wagon...just need another... |

Seems to me that a notch back or maybe the station wagon one had a shorter axle housing.friend of mine had a housing with smaller axles that was out of one.what was the length of your previous axles? Chad

Did you measure your old axles? Bet they are 15 5/8. |
