Here's a condensed version of my project. What I started with... 
Added some bracing... 
Got some seats, pedals, etc. ... 
Then got a 1980 Vanagon tranny and 1996 Suby motor! 
I had to cut out the "roof section" because there wasn't enough head room, I'll post new pics when it's fixed. I'm a long way from getting it done, if anybody has suggestions, post 'em up! Thanks- Shane |

phew glad you got rid of the car tranny.. any ideas on how ur going to do the linkage for the vanagon tranny yet? can you get a n ose cone off of a regular 6 rib and make it work? By the way the frame looks awesome keep up the good work!! |

I would get the beam twisted up and the stops cut off while it's still easy to get to. Also need to upgrade that 70's looking car on the right....Just kidding...Good work! |

The front beam is "laid back" about 6 or 7* already, or did you mean install adjusters? I was gonna cut the stops and make my own to free up a little travel but I didn't, maybe later. Right now I'm in "get it on it's wheels mode".  You'all got a favorite R&P you could suggest?

I just installed an Empi econo rack and corrected my bumpsteer but lacks turning radius. I sorta wish I paid the extra for a Saco Rack. I could shorten the steering knuckles to fix turning radius if I could find the right tapered reamer. Good luck.

[/quote]You can take the adjusters out of the bottom of your rack and clearance your stops with a grinder to give you more radius.MIKE

I did that already for about a quarter more turn. I think my problem is in some of my homemade front end parts. My steering knuckle is a smidge longer than most.. Thanks for trying. I am not totally sure about the Saco having more radius but I saw one on another buggy and he had more radius. Maybe someone else knows.

BTW Winfredvw, I like your engine. If you hit any snags hooking it up let me know. I did that conversion already. I like the ej22 just fine. Not as strong as the hopped up vw's but very reliable. No jets to fuss with. Don't get hot. Just don't do like me and run a poor air filter. I had to get another engine recently. Oh and it eats 3 ribs but the 456 needs some customizing.

Here's what's new... 
I had to make my own tranny mounts, I had a hard time getting enough clearance for the axles. I ended up putting both washers at the "pivot point" of the trailing arm on the inside, pushing the arms all the way forward, removing the washers between the c/v and axle shoulder, and moving the trans forward about 1/2". (phew) I'm using stock bus stuff, axles and c/vs. Pics of the tranny mounts... ('80 aircooled vanagon tranny)

I noticed that you are using Turboblus side shift linkage kit. It is my understanding that it will only work with a 1984 and later vanagon trans w/ the shift rod in the side of the case. |

If it works OK (I'm sure it will) we have another source of trannies to use.........
