Just found some intresting history. Sayreton no.2 mine entrance was right behind Adkin's grocery just down past the parking lot.(Not to be confused with Sayre).Actually beside 5 mile creek. The methane explosion was caused by a spark from a coal cart train. The 1st explosion killed about 14 and about 14 state mining and safety officials, sheriffs and who's who raced to the scene to be rescue heroes.Fresh air, more gas and a smoldering shirt re ignited the second blast and killed the officials.A total of 28. There was another in 1897 that killed 2.
