Ok I am new to the woods buggy thing. I have always had 4 wheelers ( still have a 86 honda 250R) and when i was younger i had a few sand rails. So after alot of reading on here i went and bought a running buggy as a starter in the woods.( you know learning to go around trees) I have watched vidieos and looked at pics on here and you guys have some very bad ass rides. I need to know what direction to go with mine to one day be close to the level yall are on.
My car is a more or less a family padded down was built in 1980 and i dont know the frame name. i know i am going to have to make it 4 inches wider to put my dual carbs on. It has a very mild 1835 dual port with a 44 weber on it stock heads hooked to a 3 rib tranny. i am running a 5000 rpm rev lim just to make sure i dont blow it up before the season is over. it has terra tires on steel wheels. I will be going to the bragging rights in fultondale and # 1 i need to know what i have to have for out there... and 2 what would be the best place to start (bang for buck) when it comes to making a climber for next year. any input will be greatly helpfull.

My suggestion is go to as many buggy runs as possible. LOOK at a LOT of cars, ask questions, take pictures, do a bunch of it. See what YOU like and YOU can afford to do, forget what the rest of us are doing for now. Look at what your running now and make some comparisons to the others. Asking questions here is a start but there is nothing better than first hand look-and-see info. Start gathering parts and $$$$$ and in the off season make your changes.

i might also add if you are going to fultondale is to just drive it around as much as possible and get used to the way it handles and make sure everything is in good running order/dependable shape so that it wont be breaking down on the trail every time you turn around and just look at everybody elses ride and get some ideas of your own and there will be of folks to get advice from down there that can look first hand at what you have and can tell you more about what you may or may not need to add or get rid of

with that being said the 1835 and 3 rib should be fine to get around and watch or check the place out, however you didnt mention anything about disk brakes or turning brakes which are a must on a woodsbuggy imo but as long as it has decent breaks even if they are drums you should be fine for the fultondale trip i would think

thanks guys and yes it has rear disk brakes, turning breaks and 3x3 trailing arms. I am hoping to see alot and talk to as many of you as i can. I know i will need more bracing from what i see in some of yalls cars. I have drove it several times but nothing to see what it will do and like i said i want info and ideas for the winter. i want this to last this summer so i can make it better for the next season. like i said my buggy experince is in sand make it light and go fast. and this car is NOT light. i will post pics asap maybe tonight. like i said THANK YOU for your time and info

I have limited experience also, but even a used set of firestones where those terras are would go along way in climbing.

i bet its a bob newsom or however its spelled seeing its from Alabama ad 2 carbs dont fit but you sound like you have a great start and will be just fine for fultondale to get around a start to becoming a hill climber i would say brace it up good get a better trans and better tires my buddy runs a 1835 and dose great so its not all about motor i would go with trans and tires and buss cvs if it dosent have them good seatbelts good seats things to keep you safe unless all thats all rdy good
