Was thinking about rust-o-leum and thin it and then spray it on outside. I was going to powder coat it but have changed my mind since I am always welding on it and doing something to the frame. Add a hardner to the paint also.
So is rust-0-leum any good?

The way I see it.. It all comes down to a few variables
Abuse - How hard are you going to ride. Rattle cans work great if you are going to stay on the street.
Looks - How much do you really care about the paint? I believe Mud is a color..
Time - How often do you want to repaint? Every time you wash the mud off or every few years
Cost - Pay me now or Pay me later. After a year or so, $3.00 cans add up.

I have done this both ways and there is no easy answer. It all comes down to what works for you.

Mickey Mouse you put it into words better than I could. Thant is what I was thinking about is repair to the paint because I plan on riding as much as I can. I decided not to powder coat it because of repairs or changing things around on it. Rattle cans don't last me very long, guess I should read the directions on the can maybe. NO that can't be it. lol Looking at the rust-o-leum because it is easy to get and isn't that expensive. Still need a good primer to go on the frame before I paint to.
