That's quite a difference in connecting rod size, but I have never known anyone that had a rod failure in a diesel that was stock or even chipped. I guess if you plan to add a huge turbo and get 1200 hp out of it they would be helpful. I think the Cummins is a great engine and I wish Ford was able to use them. I prefer the Ford trucks. I have owned both, but only one Dodge.

All most all heavy equipment has an inline straight six, excavators, dozers, combines…etc…etc. Take a look a few of the old cars and trucks that you couldn’t kill….straight six!!!! See my point? I had a 1996 7.3 Awesome truck pulled anything but at 250,000-The blow by was getting pretty bad and you could tell it has been in the rust belt for a while. So I sold it. Good luck with your search.

Lots of good info here. Big thing to look at is how much emissions crap is on the truck. The 6.0 Fords aren't all that bad if you do a EGR delete. I had one as a route truck and it had a complete overhaul at 108,000 and they told me it could happen again at anytime unless I did away with the EGR and I wasn't willing to take that chance on a commercial vehicle so I traded it in for a new 6.7 (F-550)and it is awesome! Lots of power and torque. It has about 40,000 on it now with no problems. Personally I have a 08 Ford with a 6.4 twin turbo. If you leave it stock it sucks. But I have dumped a couple grand into it and wow what a difference. I have a DPF delete, EGR Delete, aftermarket intake and a Spartan tuner. It runs like a top with no problems since. I get 20+ on the highway and about 15 towing. One of the diesel mags did a review on the tranny in these things and they were amazed at the abuse they take. I am as well... I run my truck on a +275hp tune when not towing and it shits and gets and the tranny takes it. I have a little over 100,000 now and the only problem I had was the EGR went bad which prompted me to delete it. They put a new one on under warranty and it only had about 4000 miles on it when I removed it to put the delete kit on and it was completely gunked up already. The only other bad thing about them... and I think you will find this with about any of these newer diesels... they eat tires like crazy for some reason!

I haven't had any tire issues. I just replaced with the original BF Goodrich and the first set had 65,000 miles and the second is at 41,000 now. They will need replaced about the same time. For heavy hauling and towing I can't complain. I also plow snow with these tires and they get spun a lot whether stopping or starting when it's slick. I do try and keep them rotated though since 6 truck tires are expensive.

I have a 08 duramax with just over 100,000 miles. I'm going on my fourth set of tires. It's good to know I'm not the only one.

I was going to read through all these responses, but screw it. Bight the bullet, buy the Cummins, deal with the little Dodge quirks and know you have the best engine you can get.
