Post subject:  clean wiring
has anyone ran their wire through the buggy tubing. I want to do0 my whole buggy through the tubing is this even posible?

I would stay away from that. There are more disavantages than there are advantages. Once you open the tubing you allow mud and water to get in no matter how well you try an seal it. Especialy if you use a pressure washer to ckean the buggy. Then it will rust and eventually weaken the frame from the inside out. Also you will not be ableto get thru any butt welded tube etc. Its also way more work than its worth. A simple way to get wiring from the front of the buggy to the back is thru a piece of thin wall conduit or PVC run down the middle. Then distribute from there. When I got my frame there was a few places were the wire goes thru the frame and one by one I have been welding them up. They are just a PITA!

I've got the wiring for my taillights and headlights run through the tubes. It isn't hard to do and you want to make sure you seal the holes with silicone when you get the wires run in. I always pull the wire in and then force more wire into the tube for a service loop if I ever have to cut the wire for any reason. For the main loom going back to the engine from the dash box I always use control cable. It can be bought with 5,7, or 9 wires (probably more but thats all I've ever seen) and in different wire gauges. I use the 7 wire in 12 gauge, it is about the same diameter as a nickel and has a good thick outer coating that protects the inner wires. 8)

thats what i did no some of mine. when you do it use your shop vac. and some sting to start it through the holes . then just work your way up to more and more wires.

That is pretty damn ingenious! Excellent idea! If your gonna run the wires through the tube.

if i would of realy thought ahead i could of opened up some of the tubes at the intersections before welding and made more of the wires disapear.

I'm with Ody on this one ,Don't want no holes in my frame ,No matter how well you think you have it sealed it will leak water in .That thing will be like a chevy on a quiet night you can hear it rust

My dad's old rail was wired like this. In one spot the tubing cracked and in another spot the wire shorted at the hole and when he tried to replace it he couldn't get it out and there was no more room for any more wires. When he finally rewired it he ran conduit and ran it through that.

I'm wiyh Ody too -- a guy i used to ride with had his wired that way too. His buggy is probably been around for about 17 years or so, and it seemed like every time we rode i welded his frame back up -- it was rusted bad from the inside out

Drilling holes in the frame will weaken the structure. not what i want to spend my time doing :( and then there is the rust thing :twisted: so no dont do it unless you like weakened rusty frames.

Mine has been drilled since '76 and when I cut it apart to lengthen it there was no abnormal rust at all. Mine gets pressure washed, rode in the creek, and rode in the rain so there is plenty of opportunity for it to happen.
