I'm building a hi-jumper 4 seater car for trail riding down here and its going to have a 2.2 Ecotec for power. I'm trying to decide where to put the radiator so I'd like to see your setups. Behind the motor seems the most practical, but I'm worried about someone running into the back of me and tearing it up. I could build some protection around it of course, but I don't think it would look very good. I'd also have to lengthen the back of my buggy to do that too I think. Another option is laying down over the motor, and have a fiberglass scoop to draw air through it. But I'd need to have a radiator built or modified because of filler neck issues. So there's pluses/minuses to each mounting position, so lets see yours and hear why you chose that spot. |

Here's a couple from far away, I'll take some better pics of the black one........ I chose down low in front of the motor to protect and conceal. It's on the same angle as the double roll bars so from the side you can barely see it. The con's would be too close to the seats, planning on building a protective shroud one of these day's.

Thanks for the pictures guys. Madmike, where did you get those clamps at that hold the radiator to the chassis? I like those. |

Bryan, what motor is that? How well does it cool with only the fans providing airflow? Does the back seat passenger get hot if you're sitting still? |

Most of the guys around here are using the radiator out of a mid 90's Jeep Cherokee (not Grand) and mounting them just behind the seats. The Cherokee radiator is long, narrow, and best of all, cheap. A new one can be had for around $100 if you happen to run a stick through it.

How much without the stick through it?  Thanks, I may run one of those standing up in the back of the frame on top of the motor. Being in Florida, radiant heat when sitting still is an issue. I don't want some big tall radiator blocking my vision out the back of the buggy either. So wide, short, and far back may be the best answer. |

Those radiators come in two versions, Left hand drive and Right hand drive. The outlets are flipped around opposite on the RHD. You'll probably have to order that one but it is the same price. They fit in the postal service Cherokees. If you bought the radiator where I used to work, the stick was not optional....

Aluminum block. The fans cool just fine so far with no heat issues at all with the back passenger. I think the hottest day I had it out was around 90f. The fans are loud though. It would probably cool with just one but I like having them both going just in case. You can hear them here. |

I run a radiator from a mid 90's four banger Dodge Intrepid. It's short and has a single quiet fan that I can't even hear run. It's even shorter than a Nissan maxima radiator. I mounted it behind the gas tank and as low as possible to get it farther away from me and keep the heat off the gas tank by allowing the air to hit it first. I haven't had any trouble with overheating even on 90+ degree days. The intercooler that is mounted up high is a different story although I can see between them when backing up. Thanks for the pics. Keep um coming. Im still trying to figure out where I want mine mounted. Would like to have it as far away from me as possible. But still would like to be able to use my rear view mirror. |
