Anyone know what kind this is? Looks kinda like a copperhead but the pattern isn't quite the same. It is in a pond behind the house that the grandkids fish in.

Did a little research and I think it's this one, northern water snake. ![]() They said it was acting real pissy. Just was a bit concerned because it looked so much like a copperhead. Here is a pic of a copperhead. Look pretty close.

i'm not scared of them just aint stupid enough to play all buddy buddy with them.if it even looks close to a poisonous one it dies and if it wasn't oh well it's just as dead.i work out in the woods everyday and actually today i saw a black snake eat a garter snake now that was cool and i could have then just killed it and got two snakes with one stone sorta speaking but i dont bother the non deadly ones that i know are not deadly.there is no great need for a copperhead or a rattle snake in society as far as i'm concerned, the world is not going to stop going around and around if we kill every last one of them.so i will do my part in trying to make these two snakes extinct if i can.i grew up on a farm and we had alot of black snakes that was always sneaking around but still it was a snake and i didnt play with'em and i sure the hell aint going to sleep with'em in my camper.sissy or not i aint going to get bit if i can keep from it.lol.chad |

He worked ten times better than decon or any mouse trap. He was fairly friendly too. I picked him up and showed him to everybody around camp. Like afterburnt, I had a few pet snakes over the years. There are kinda boring most of the time but it's cool to feed them. I don't understand the big fear of all snakes. However a few pointers: Snakes can strike up to a distance of two thirds there body length. When they strike they are really really fast. Faster than you, I promise. Their vision isn't real good, they see mostly in infra red, so they just see your heat signature, kinda like those things in Tremors 2 So if confronted by one and you don't have your trusty shotgun, throwing a jacket over them will pretty much blind them. Don't try and pick it up though. They really are more scared of you than you are of them, well unless your a wuss. Also copperheads and rattlers have a diamond shaped head and other non poisonous ones in this area of the country have a strait head. Also (here's a big one) black snakes are know to prey on copperheads. So if you have black snakes around you are probably safe But if that snake in the pic was near were my kids played I would probably kill it just to be safe. One more thing: Dave how are you gonna tie up the snake? |
