Post subject:  091 six rib options?

I have two 091 transmissions, one is the standard nose cone shift and the other is a converted side shift I think. They look the same except one has much wider ribs that taper as they go down the side of the case. Both will work since they are not side shift but is one better than the other? I would like to open the one I believe is converted to see what it is but I have no idea what I'm looking for. Any suggestions besides taking it to a shop? I can try to get some pictures tomorrow.

They are probably the same internally. I agree you most likely have a conversion on the one. They should both work equally.

I have a late 79 transmission and it has the wider ribs. I was told that some of the 79 transmissions are like this. I was also told the case is stronger but the gears are the same as all 6 ribs.

it's a long shot, but 78 & 79 made a limited slip differential in some boxes. i wanna say it was a "CZ" M-code. they're not really common, but not necessarily rare either.

Hey guys.. I can post some pics if you want of various transmissions. BTW, if you need one built, just ask..
