From what year of Bus/Vanagon, and type of trans, did VW use a 19 1/4 inch long axle? I'm trying to locate some for a buddy that recently got some 3x3 trailing arms. Thanks!

No bus that I know of has that length. Aftermarket would be your only option.

The stock axles from the Buses with 3, 5, and 6 rib trannies are 18 3/4, which I though only worked with 2 X 3 arms. I've spoken with a few people that say the 19 1/4 axles come from a Vanagon, but when you ask them from what year, with which trans, they don't have any idea. I found some from a 91 Auto Trans Vanagon, and they were different lengths that were both over 20 inches long.

Yeah, I've been trying to find some used ones for a little while now. Not really any to be found (as Roy said, they aren't stock). I think I'm gonna have to buy some new ones(about $135).

You can run stock bus axles 18 3/4 out of a 70-79 bus just add a1/2 inch spacer on your stub axle

It works,it puts your stub axle in toward your tranny flange making up for the 1/2 inch difference in the axle 18 3/4-19 1/4 axle

i put bus axles in my 3x3 trailing arms... i think i used the 1/4 inch spacers on the stub axles ( no sure tho ).. you probably wont be able to put the cotter pin back in the nut but i didnt have any problem with them loosening up.. just check em the first couple rides.. its a better way to go unless up want to spend mo money. i never had any problems..

i'm sure its not as good of a seal against the spacer as the stub axle, but it works. i never had any grease problems.. that was one of my first alabama rig jobs on a buggy. :D that was a couple cases of beer ago since i did that.. i have forgotten exactly how it seals..
