Hmm! If I wanted to do a 4 wheel drive buggy I think I would be will to cough up a chunk of change for it. Well not quite that much!

That's what I have to use for my 4x4 rail buggy with a stick-o-matic setup. Mine has a locking differential in it though. I also have a 2800 turbo type 4 that will run on propane to power it. You can get them much cheaper than that. I have 3 and will buy every one that I can get my hands on if the price is right.

It's a long way from being on the trail. I'm still in the parts collecting phase (I have been for a couple of years now). I have a desert rail frame that will be modified to use the 4wd parts. It is currently just a rolling 2wd chassis. I have the complete rear drivetrain but none of the front. The frame currently has a link pin style beam and will have to be modified to add A-arms for the front wheel drive train. I'm also thinking about going chain drive on the rear. I'm taking my time on this one because I don't know what the hell I'm doing and I don't have anything to use as a guide.

Any 4x4 experts on here that can help? I don't know what to use for a front diff or front hubs either. I want a selectable locker for the front since I have one in the rear. I also need it to be as light weight as possible so preferrably aluminum or mag housing. I also need some lock out front hubs so I can totally disengage the front drivetrain and run it like a regular 2wd buggy. Any help would be appreciated.

I saw a 4wd buggy once at Summertown. He modified a 2 wd tranny by putting a shaft out the front. He used a rear diff from a smal subaru car up front,,I think upside down. good luck,,,I love the different stuff...

I know a couple guys in TN that run the syncro diff in there auto-stick six ribs. I had a lockright locker in mine for a short time--worked good but wore steer box out [bug]. Not willing to pay that for a trans thou -
