Ok I just got my buggy about a month ago. The kid that I got it from told me that he had the trans rebuild and made it a Flyer tranny. Other than pull the trans apart how can i figure out what the R & P is? I dont know if having a flyer trans is good for the woods or not. I would think not but this is all new to me and greek.

3.88 to 1 and a slightly different .93 vs .89 4th gear. You would notice the difference between that one and a normal T-1 twelve volt transaxle that has a 4.12 ring and pinion it with a stock engine in a Beetle or a Baja. They acelerate a little slower but have a bit more top end. Opposite of what you need for off roading. In a lighter Buggy your not going to notice it. You would notice 4th gear as it is hard to pull fourth with a 1600 cc with 30" plus tall tires. You might as well use it. When it is time to upgrade the best set up for a 1600 is a 3 rib t-2 transaxle with its 5.36 ring and pinion. At 1000 rpms with 30" tires your speed is 4 mph as opposed to 6 with the freeway flyer gearing which has the gearing of a later Karman Ghia. 2 mph an hour may not seem like much on pavement but off roading in rough terrain it can be a big deal.
