Buggy Of The Month -August

Picture 003.jpgWoodsbuggy.com buggy of the month award goes to Steve Hubbard, otherwise known as Odyknuck. His superior craftsmanship on his buggy has made him a perfect fit for this award. Steve says this buggy started from a simple idea of adding long travel suspension to his older buggy named "The Duck". He wanted something that would allow a softer ride in the woods, and with some nice "encouragement" from his wife the new buggy project sprung to life. He happened to come across a great deal on an unfinished street buggy project. The previous owner had invested a lot of time in making it the perfect street buggy which was the complete opposite spectrum from what Odyknuck wanted in a buggy, and so the project began.

Picture 002.jpgThe buggy was completely stripped down to the frame and work begun to make it the perfect woodsbuggy. The project was beginning to take shape and the parts started rolling in. The buggy was never intended to be a pretty trailer queen, even though I am sure we can all agree it is one beautiful car, it was built to be abused in the woods. Odyknuck wanted to make this buggy everything that "The Duck" was not, all the lessons learned from the previous ride would be applied here. There was a long list of things to change one of the most important ones would be more power and better riding suspension!

He started with a Autolinea Pentroof case and a 84MM chromoly crank. H Beam rods and 94MM pistons mean this 2332 is built for high rpms and maximum power. Add 044 Heads, scat lifters, chromoly push rods, autocraft 1.4 rockers, and a T3 Turbo, all equal BIG power. Fuel is delivered to the motor by a CB Performance fuel injection setup and dual fuel pumps to supply the big injectors all the juice the need. The next thing Odyknuck knew he wanted changed was suspension. In the front he choose to go with Fox Racing 2.0 shocks, 2 ¼ extended Tweeds front trailing arm, Tweeds combo spindle, and a 6 inch over beam. Topping off the front is Jamar disc brakes, and a Sweet rack with full power steering setup. In the rear he went with 2x3 extended heavy duty trailing arms with 28MM Sway-Away torsion bars, and Fox Racing 2.0 shocks. Picture 011.jpgTopping off the rear end are Jamar disc brakes, lobro 930 cv joints, Sway-Away axles, and adjustable spring plates. All these components add up to an excellent ride in the wodds, and something his wife can enjoy with him. Putting all the power to the ground is a side shift vanagon 6 rib with the large reverse gear and a superdiff. Odyknuck wanted a comfortable interior also as this is where most of the time is spent in the buggy. He also needed lots of gauges for feedback from the awesome motor setup. The previous owner had spent 50+ hours building the one-off dash. The dash contains a wealth of information from boost and fuel pressure, oil pressure, rpm, voltage, and even a working speedo. Racing suspension seats and cam lock 5 point harnesses top out the comfortable ride. All the attention to detail and design on this buggy is something to be very proud of. Congratulation Odyknuck for buggy of the month, so get out there and get working guys you could be next months perfect buggy.
