Back in 94 i found the frame sitting in my uncle's yard in Cabin Creek, West Virginia. I bought it for 250 bucks. I built it up mostly stock, with snow tires, drum breaks and no tree bars, and a 1600 motor and a swing axle transmission. I brought it out to Wellsville for the first time in 99 and i barrel rolled through the big puddle by the rail road tracks in yellow creek and bent it all up. i rebuilt it, using 1 5/8 inch DOM tubing, i cut the torsion out, put the IRS in with the 6 rib bus tranny and V treads. and i welded on some tree bars. in December 2000, my garage burnt down with my buggy in it, i lost everything. the only thing i salvaged was the frame, transmission, and back rims, that was it. from 2000 it was alot of hard work to get it to what it is now. now thats why its called Afterburnt, this is what it looks like after its been burnt.
I rebuilt the whole frame out of 1 5/8 .120 wall DOM tubing.
All the welds have been cleaned and smoothed over.
It has 92 inch wheel base
Front:
I custom made the whole front suspension, I started off with 2 inch OD .120 wall DOM pipe for the beam, i made it 2 inches wider and ball joint width.
I made the trailing arms out of 3/16ths wall square tubing, they are 2 1/2 inches longer than stock and 1 inch wider.
The link pins are made out of 4140 7/8 diameter.
The king pins I made out of 1 3/4 inch modified 4140 and i heat treated them so i could use torington needle bearings
I copied the Foddrill King Kong Combo Spindles, but I used the spindles off of a ford explorer and i took the rotor, and duplicated them with a chunk of aluminum, I used the bearing and the raceses off the ford explorer.
I used the Wilwood rotor, and I made a cool stainless steal dust cap
I have fox nitrogen shocks supporting it all. and i turn it all with power stearing. Im using a jeep cherokee stearing box, with a geo storm power stearing pump. I got the power stearing pump ran off of a compitition engieneering duel crank shaft pully
Rear:
I custom made the rear suspension, using the front hubs off of a 93 half ton 4 wheel drive chevy pickup. (micro stubs)
I took the chevy axles, and cut and machined down the CV cup to bolt on bus CVs the trailing arms i made out of .187 wall DOM tubing.
I went 3 inch wider and 3 inch longer than stock. the axles are 21 3/8 EMPI race axles.
I use fox nigtogen shocks along with pro comp MX 6 shocks
Front:
I run 5.90 x 15 tracter implements , I cut up and narrowed a set a steel rims and I welded beadlocks on the inside and outsideon the backs, I have steel rims that I cut the centers out, moved the off-set and drilled them for six lug chevy, and I welded beadlocks on the outside.
Rear:
I'm running the 4 ply V treads on the back
My next project is to get rid of these heavy steel wheels and get some aluminum beadlock wheels, and hopefully some firestone V treads.
6 rib transmission, stuffed full of weddle gears, shafts, super diff and pinion nut
I have a 4.57 ring and pinion
3.75 x 2.46 first and second gear
2100 pound clutch
The motor, is a 2276 aluminum block CB performance crank with scat 5.5 rods with 3/8 rod bolts.
CB performance heads, all the head work was done by Jim at Jim custom VW.
It has duel 45 dell carborators.
MSD distributor/ 6 AL box/ coil and wires
CB performance dry stump pump, and a cool aluminum dry stump tank from Davehixall of the oil lines are parker push lock hose with aluminum AN fittings, Moroso prefilter before the pump and Holley disc filter before the oil goes back in the tank.
Crawler cam bugpack lifters, stock ratio rockers
Polished aluminum cooling tins and housing
It has 1 5/8 inch ceramic coated header
I have double layer fiberglass flat bottom seats. stainless steel control panel with auto meter gages RCI 5 point harnessesI custom made the aluminum grab handle for the passenger and foot rest with the antislip diamonds that matches the driver pedals.I even have a red vinyl headliner
For breaks, up front I use wilwood disc with wilwood dynalite calipers in the back, i use chevy half ton rotors with wilwood dynalite calipers
I fabricated my whole pedal assembly using seperate wilwood master cylinder for the front, and another one for the back.
I fabricated bias control in my pedal, so I can adjust more stopping in the front or the back. I even went as far as cutting antislip diamonds on the face of the pedals
I also have a wilwood proportioning valve on the front
I have jammer duel handle cutting breaks
I run stainless steel break lines
The frame is painted with medium blue metallic Dupli-Color Truck, Van paintthe gas tank and air cleaners are painted with house of kolor paint, started off with black base then silver marblizer and then candy apple over the marblizer, and alot of clear.
The dry stump oil tank has been painted with silver base then big silver flake, a little bit of blue flake and then blue marblizer and over that, he sprayed cobalt blue and on the top of the tank, he used black paint to spray in some skulls, with alot of clear over that. the roof, is a rebel flag all sprayed with house of kolors. using candy apple red, and cobalt blue.
